The United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention (United Way) is seeking qualified behavioral health organizations to provide integrated, comprehensive behavioral health prevention programs. Funding is made available to United Way through the Broward Behavioral Health Coalition (BBHC) and the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Office of Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health.
The Substance Abuse Behavioral Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) refers to behavioral health as mental/emotional well-being and/or actions that affect wellness. Behavioral health problems include substance use disorders; alcohol and drug addiction; serious psychological distress, suicide, and mental disorders.
Performance Goals and Objectives
The following goal and its objectives have been established by the Commission to guide activities and programs that promote behavioral health and wellness.
- Objective 1: Reduce alcohol, drug-related deaths, and other serious consequences in Broward County by 5-%

Objective 2: Prevent incidence rates and reduce underage drinking prevalence rates among Broward County youth by 10-%

Objective 3: Prevent incidence rates and reduce the increasing prevalence of Broward County youth reporting marijuana use by 10-%

Objective 4: Prevent incidence rates and reduce mental, emotional, behavioral, and health risk among Broward County youth and adults by 5-%

Objective 5: Prevent incidence rates and reduce the increasing prevalence rate of Broward County youth reporting electronic cigarette use by 5-%
The target population for programs and services funded under this RFA includes youth, adults, and older adults in Broward County, focusing on at-risk, vulnerable populations with unique service needs such as military veterans, LGBT and gender diverse individuals, those with limited English proficiency, immigrants, and culturally diverse groups such as Hispanics, Haitians, other Caribbean Islanders, and Portuguese speakers.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be non-profit agencies that have been determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be created for a charitable cause, most commonly categorized as 501(3) organizations. Applicants should also demonstrate prior quality performance in the provision of behavioral health services and agree to comply with service, administrative, fiscal, and data requirements.
