The Northland Foundation’s Grant Program provides financial and technical resources to 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofits, schools, and other public entities serving Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties. Support is directed toward two priorities areas: Children, Youth, and Families and Individual and Community Wellbeing.
- Children, Youth, and Families Priority: The Northland Foundation focuses on children, youth, and families, with support for programming that delivers:
- Positive interaction between youth and caring adults.
- Early childhood care and education.
- High-quality youth enrichment activities for in-school or out-of-school time.
- Parenting and grandparenting support.
- Promotion of respect, diversity, and inclusion.
- Children and youth-focused programming that engages multiple generations.
- Youth leadership, civic involvement, volunteerism, and philanthropy.
- Individual and Community Well-being Priority: The Northland Foundation promotes the wellbeing and dignity of all people with support for programming that offers:
- Job training, employment, and education for people with low incomes or who are living in poverty.
- Asset building, including home ownership and financial literacy.
- Neighborhood revitalization and safe, affordable housing.
- Enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.
- Homeless issues and basic needs, such as food security.
- Prevention of domestic violence, abuse, and sex trafficking.
- Promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion for all people.
- Helping older adults maintain independence and providing support for their caregivers.
Funding Information
One-to-two grants of up to $150,000 each will be awarded for either two or three years (grantee can select grant period duration).
Eligibility Criteria
Organizations interested in applying for the opportunity should:
- Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, local unit of government, or a community group with a fiscal sponsor.
- Provide services in any of the seven counties of Northeast Minnesota (Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties) or five Tribal Nations that share the same geography: Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe (District 1), and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe (District II).
