The Community Grants Program provides support for projects that raise awareness and understanding and lead to the implementation of pollution prevention practices and/or behaviors at the local level with the goal of improving the health, environmental quality, and economic vitality of communities in New York State.
The program is designed to support initiatives that raise public awareness and understanding of environmental issues and that lead to the adoption of sustainable practices. The goal of the Community Grants Program is to support projects that raise awareness and understanding of pollution prevention practices and lead to implementation at the local level.
NYSP2I is led by the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and is a partnership between RIT, Binghamton University, Clarkson University, Cornell University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Funding Information
Up to $240,000 is available for organizations statewide to improve communities in 2022-23.
They Give Preference to Projects That:
- Utilize partnerships and collaborations with other organizations
- Demonstrate a broad community impact
- Address populations and communities affected by, experiencing, or susceptible to environmental harms and risk
- Are replicable and transferrable to other organizations
- Are located in Environmental Justice (EJ) communities
Eligible Projects
Submitted proposals must meet the following criteria and guidelines to be considered:
- Increase awareness, understanding, and/or lead to the implementation of pollution prevention practices and/or behaviors at the community or municipal level
- Demonstrate a clear and actionable project plan
- Be able to measure program outcomes
- Result in one or more concrete deliverable(s) (past examples include training or public education workshops; demonstration projects; implementation of a new policy, technology, or practice; and creation and dissemination of brochures, videos, or a website)
- Be completed within the project timeline, which is anticipated to be October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023.
