The International Medical Graduate (IMG) Career Guidance and Support Grant Program provides the foundation for a comprehensive program authorized by the Minnesota State Legislature, to address barriers to medical practice and facilitate pathways to assist immigrant international medical graduates (IMGs) with integrating into the Minnesota health care delivery system, with the goal of increasing access to primary care in rural and underserved areas of the state.
The IMG Career Guidance and Support Program will serve as an entry point for IMGs in Minnesota to participate in navigation and support programming that will assist them to overcome barriers to the testing and application processes for residency program acceptance or help them to prepare for other health care related career opportunities that utilize their extensive medical education and background.
Funding Information
- Up to $400,000 in funding is available.
- IMG Career Guidance and Support Program grant funding may cover 24 months of program services.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations that fulfill all of the following criteria:
- Are located in Minnesota.
- Are in good financial standing.
- Have demonstrable experience working with immigrants/refugees in Minnesota.
- Have a track record providing workforce development programming with demonstrated expertise in providing career guidance and support.
- Have experience partnering with educational and support service agencies to maximize resources.
- Have an active organizational program website that will house program resources.
- Are culturally competent and understand health equity collaboration.
