OAIT/MBSYEP Pre-Apprenticeship Intermediary Initiative (District of Columbia)

Dated: March 28, 2022

As part of the MBSYEP Pre-Apprenticeship Intermediary Initiative, the Department of Employment Services’ Office of Apprenticeship, Information and Training (OAIT) is seeking high quality, structured, and innovative grant applications from organizations to develop and implement pre-apprenticeship initiatives within skilled trades that lead to registered apprenticeship opportunities for 100 minority youth (in-school and out-of-school) ages 18-24 and inclusive individuals (individuals possessing physical or mental condition(s) that limits movements, senses, or activities.

Donor Name: Department of Employment Services (DOES)

State: District of Columbia

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 04/13/2022

Size of the Grant: $100,000

Details:

To demonstrate the capacity to move SYEP participants into apprenticeship opportunities post-apprenticeship completion, applying organizations must demonstrate partnerships with registered apprenticeship programs approved by the D.C. Apprenticeship Council via a letter of support(s), MOU(s), or other written means to denote partnership.

Proposed pre-apprenticeship programs should also provide enrolled students with related instruction that leads to the achievement of a nationally recognized certification. After completion of the program, pre-apprentices are to be transitioned into a registered apprenticeship program through partnerships established by the applicant. Participants who are 17 years of age may be eligible to participate in the program. However, they must be 18 years of age by August 1, 2022, and the organization must undergo a background check.
