Donor Name: NextUp RVA

State: Virginia

City: Richmond

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 05/06/2022

Size of the Grant: $1,000

Details:

The purpose of this program funding is to provide short-term, limited funding to teen and family serving organizations for 2022 summer programs and activities that will promote positive youth development and prevent youth violence for Richmond City teens, 12-19 years old. Additionally, NextUp is providing micro-grants (up to $1,000) for community-building activities.

This initiative is part of the City of Richmond’s Gun Violence Prevention Initiative.  Funding is made possible by the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) and the use of funds must comply with federal rules and regulations.

Interested parties may apply for two types of funding: Program Services and/or Micro Grants

  • Program Services Funding is strictly for providing direct services to teens, 12-19 years old, or their families, that live in Richmond City Qualified Census Tracts. Allowable positive youth development services include full-day or part-day summer enrichments, camps, tutoring, and/or mentoring; as well as parenting education services.
  • Micro Funding up to $1,000 is for community-building projects, events, and activities that promote positive youth development and the prevention of youth violence in Richmond City Qualified Census Tracts.

Who May Apply

  • 501c3 organizations, including faith-based organizations
  • LLC, Sole Proprietary, and/or Incorporated Businesses for teen and/or family services
  • Individuals and community groups may apply under a nonprofit fiscal sponsor

Eligibility Requirements

  • Activities must be limited to teens (ages 12-19 or grades 6th-12th) or families of teenagers, that reside in Qualified Census Tracts (QCT). QCT means a census tract in which at least 50% of households have an income less than 60% of the Area Median Gross Income (AMGI), or which has a poverty rate of at least 25%.
  • Activities should cover all or any portion of the out-of-school time period, June 25-August 28, 2022.
  • Activities must not be used for generating profit for the applicant and must not supplant other public sector funds or restricted funds for the activities.
  • Activities must comply with all relevant City ordinances and the applicant must be able to secure any permits that may be necessary to undertake the activity.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a non-discrimination policy.
  • Applicants must carry a minimum of $1 Million in General Liability insurance for activities.
  • Applicants must comply with all relevant laws related to serving youth and/or families.
  • Activities that involve adults working directly with youth must ensure all instructors have passed background checks to ensure no one working with the teens has a history of crimes or misdemeanors against children, domestic violence, or other violent acts. If they do, NextUp will consider exceptions if the applicant submits a formal request and a strong case for exemption.
  • Applicants must agree to the reporting requirements and participate in the evaluation.
