This fund supports organizations that help the older population age in place and that support older adults who are low-income or vulnerable.
Northern Virginia is home to more than 310,000 adults over 65, of which 82 percent are living in a condo or house that they own. These aging homeowners have high rates of disability (28 percent) and poverty (13 percent are living below 200 percent of federal poverty).
To help Northern Virginians over the age of 65 age well in the region, the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia makes grants with a focus in Aging annually through the Community Investment Funds grant cycle, and has developed resources, including two data-driven reports, to help the region better understand the needs of this population.
Grant Period
The 2024 grant will be awarded by May 1, 2024 and should be utilized by June 30, 2025.
Criteria
In 2024, the Community Foundation intends to make two grants of $18,000 each. They will consider grant applications that meet the following criteria.
- Applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations providing charitable or educational services. Local, state and federal government entities are not eligible to apply.
- This year, grant requests will only be considered for general organizational support. Applications for capital improvements, endowments, or scholarship awards will not be considered.
- Grants will be made to organizations providing services in Northern Virginia (Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, plus the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church and Manassas/Manassas Park).
- Applications that are late or incomplete will not be considered.
- Only one application per organization will be considered.
