The Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (Byrne SCIP) furthers the U.S. Department of Justice (US DOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) mission of achieving safer communities by assisting state, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence, particularly gun violence.
The purpose of the Byrne SCIP is to reduce and prevent gun violence, keep guns out of dangerous hands, and ultimately save lives.
- Goal 1 Reduce current rates of gun violence in communities
- Objective 1 Outreach and education to youth who are most at risk of involvement with gun violence
- Objective 2 Provide resources and referrals to parents/guardians of youth at risk of gun violence involvement
- Objective 3 Develop and implement community violence intervention models
- Goal 2 Provide community education and training on prevention of gun violence
- Goal 3 Prevent future incidents of gun violence
- Objective 1 Counseling to address and heal trauma, peer mentoring to provide guidance and positive role models for youth
- Objective 2 Behavioral threat assessment programs and related training
- Goal 4 Prevent future incidents of intimate partner violence
- Objective 1 Counseling to address and heal trauma, direct advocacy services, and support groups for victims of intimate partner violence
Funding Information
- Each applicant may request up to $400,000.
- The budget period for subawards to local units of government is 18 months, beginning April 1, 2024, and ending September 30, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be a unit of local government. A CBO must partner with a unit of local government as their fiduciary. Both the unit of local government and CBO should be identified in the application.
