Details:

The goal of the Integrated Treatment for Individuals with Co-occurring Disorders in the Criminal Justice System Program is to assist and provide comprehensive TTA to local demonstration sites and the field to facilitate cross-system collaboration among justice stakeholders, behavioral health service providers and community support organizations to improve access to coordinated and integrated treatment for individuals in the criminal justice system with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (MHSUDs). TTA will specifically focus on demonstration sites effectively connecting individuals with co-occurring MHSUDs who present at the post arrest, pre-disposition phase of the criminal justice system to treatment.

Objectives 

  • Enhance collaboration
    • Foster cross-system collaboration among justice stakeholders, behavioral health service providers, and community support organizations to better address the needs of individuals with co-occurring MHSUDs within the criminal justice system.
  • Build Capacity in the Field Through Technical Assistance (TA)
    • Deliver comprehensive TA to local demonstration sites, focusing on building capacity and expertise in addressing behavioral health needs during the post-arrest pre-trial phase. Develop resources and materials to support replication for the field at large.
  • Support Demonstration Sites
    • Assist local demonstration sites in developing effective strategies for identifying, assessing, and treating individuals with co-occurring behavioral health disorders within the criminal justice system, promoting evidence-based practices.
  • Promote Integration
    • Encourage the integration of MHSUD treatment services at the post-arrest pre-disposition phase, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing the complex needs of the target population.
  • Enhance Training
    • Develop and implement training programs that equip justice stakeholders, behavioral health service providers, and community support organizations with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively collaborate and address the behavioral health needs of individuals in the criminal justice system.
  • Monitor and Evaluate
    • Establish a system for continuous monitoring and evaluation of program outcomes, refining strategies based on feedback and emerging best practices to continually improve the program’s impact.
