Submit Applications for Collective Impact Grants (Missouri)

Dated: September 23, 2024

Collective Impact Grants are designed for a coalition of high-capacity organizations to drive systems-level impact and change in the Kansas City community.

Donor Name: Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation

State: Missouri

County: Cass County (MO), Clay County (MO), Jackson County (MO), Johnson County (MO), Platte County (MO)

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 11/01/2024

Size of the Grant: $100,000 to $500,000

Grant Duration: Grant Duration Not Mentioned

Details:

The grant opportunities align to the following strategic priorities:

  • College access and completion: College completion remains an important stepping stone – or barrier – to prosperity. They strive to make college affordable, high quality, and attainable for all.
  • Workforce and career development: Innovative and unexpected pathways are essential to entering the workforce. Beyond that, career growth relies on continued learning and skill development. They seek to expand these opportunities for all Kansas Citians.
  • Entrepreneurship: Research shows that entrepreneurship is highly effective at closing economic gaps, despite an uneven playing field. Minority and women business owners need equitable access to capital, resources, and peer networks. They are committed to supporting and sustaining business ownership for people of every background.

Focus Areas

The grant opportunities focus on the following areas:

  • Essential competencies and skills: Growing the mindsets, behaviors, knowledge, and skill sets essential for success in school and career.
  • Education and employer connection: Strengthening the ties between education and employers to create a more relevant and prepared workforce.
  • Participation and belonging: Cultivating an environment where everyone can participate and feel seen and valued, regardless of background.
  • Equitable access: Making learning pathways affordable and capital accessible to all learners, workers, and entrepreneurs.

Planning Grants

  • Planning Grants are accessible through the application portal and are designed to fund nine months of planning for the Collective Impact implementation proposal.
  • The Planning Grants application should show how these organizations will collaborate to implement a systems-change strategy. The application should demonstrate significant potential to narrow the economic mobility gap in the greater Kansas City area over multiple years.
  • Planning grant requests can be up to $500,000. The grant funding is intended to be managed by an intermediary that is leading the Collective Impact effort. They anticipate that the intermediary will submit a budget that reflects the time and resources needed for key coalition members involved in the planning process.

Geographic Limitations

It’s generally the six-county region of the metro area including Cass, Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Wyandotte counties.

Ineligibility

The Kauffman Foundation is unable to provide funding for the following:

  • bricks and mortar, including buildings or housing
  • endowments
  • institutions that discriminate
  • loans, expenses, or seed capital for a private business
  • lobbying or political activities
  • medical (physical or mental health)
  • political, social, or fraternal organizations
  • religious activities
  • requests to fund individuals, including direct scholarships.
