Comal County Nonprofits Mark Significant Milestones and Expand Community Programs

Dated: January 15, 2025

In a vibrant celebration of community spirit, local nonprofits in Comal County are marking significant milestones and expanding their programs in 2025. These organizations are dedicated to enhancing the lives of residents through various initiatives, from animal rescue to food assistance and advocacy for children.

Key Takeaways

  • Local nonprofits are expanding their programs and celebrating milestones in 2025.
  • The Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area is enhancing its animal care initiatives.
  • The New Braunfels Food Bank is focusing on community partnerships and food security.
  • The Children’s Advocacy Center is increasing training programs for community safety.
  • The Rock Haus Foundation is renovating facilities to better serve individuals with disabilities.
  • Comal Conservation is promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices.

Expanding Animal Care Initiatives

The Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area (HSNBA) is set to build on the success of its pilot programs launched in 2024. These include:

  1. Doggy Day Out: Community members can take shelter pets on outings, providing them with a break from shelter life.
  2. Pack Walks: Volunteers walk shelter dogs in local parks, promoting socialization and exercise.
  3. Doggy Playgroups: These sessions allow dogs to interact, leading to healthier pets and better adoption prospects.

Additionally, HSNBA plans to continue its successful trap-neuter-release program, which has spayed or neutered 868 feral cats in the past year, and expand its foster program that cared for over 1,300 animals.

Food Security and Community Support

The New Braunfels Food Bank is committed to providing nutritious food to those in need. In 2025, the organization aims to strengthen its community partnerships and explore new fundraising campaigns to ensure consistent support throughout the year. Program manager Nate Raschke emphasizes the importance of connecting individuals with additional resources to aid their recovery during challenging times.

Advocacy for Children

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Comal County is celebrating its 20th anniversary in June 2025. Executive Director Stacy Dufur highlights the center’s commitment to increasing community training sessions aimed at creating a safer environment for children. The center believes that a unified effort is essential for protecting the youth in the community.

Enhancing Services for Individuals with Disabilities

The Rock Haus Foundation is embarking on renovations at its facility to better serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Plans include hosting “night out” events every other month, providing social opportunities for individuals with special needs and respite for their caregivers. Administrative Director Bill Barry also envisions a citywide event that fosters teamwork between disabled and non-disabled peers.

Promoting Environmental Awareness

Comal Conservation is focused on expanding its outreach and promoting sustainable practices in the region. Executive Director Ryan Spencer aims to engage developers in workshops on low-impact development techniques and collaborate with local water authorities to ensure the preservation of natural resources. The organization recognizes landowners as vital allies in conservation efforts.

As these nonprofits continue to grow and adapt, their commitment to serving the Comal County community remains steadfast, ensuring a brighter future for all residents.
