Guido’s Fresh Marketplace Makes Significant Impact in Fight Against Food Insecurity

Dated: January 30, 2025

Guido’s Fresh Marketplace has successfully raised over $18,000 to combat food insecurity in the local community. Through its innovative "Round Up at Checkout" program, customers contributed generously during the months of November and December 2024, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting those in need.

Key Takeaways

  • Total Funds Raised: $18,056.06
  • Customer Contributions: $15,056.06 from the "Round Up at Checkout" program
  • Company Donation: $3,000 from Guido’s family of businesses
  • Beneficiary Organizations: Seven local food programs

Overview of the Fundraising Initiative

The fundraising initiative, which ran from November to December 2024, allowed customers to round up their purchases at the register, with the extra change going directly to local food insecurity programs. This effort not only raised significant funds but also raised awareness about the ongoing issue of food insecurity in the region.

Beneficiary Organizations

The funds raised will be distributed among seven local organizations dedicated to fighting food insecurity, including:

  1. Price Memorial AME Zion Church
  2. Berkshire Dream Center
  3. South Congregational Church
  4. First United Methodist Church
  5. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
  6. Construct
  7. People’s Pantry

These organizations play a crucial role in providing food assistance and support to those in need within the Pittsfield and Great Barrington areas.

Impact of the Round Up at Checkout Program

Since its inception in July 2020, the "Round Up at Checkout" program has generated an impressive total of $336,889.27 for local organizations. The program operates year-round, with each partner organization receiving a two-month period to benefit from the donations collected at the registers. At the end of this period, all proceeds, along with a $3,000 donation from Guido’s family of businesses, are allocated to the respective organization.

Community Engagement and Future Initiatives

Guido’s Fresh Marketplace encourages local organizations to apply for inclusion in the program, fostering a spirit of community engagement and support. This initiative not only helps address immediate food needs but also strengthens the bonds within the community by promoting collaboration among local businesses and organizations.

As the fight against food insecurity continues, initiatives like the "Round Up at Checkout" program demonstrate the power of community involvement and the impact that collective efforts can have on improving the lives of those in need. Guido’s Fresh Marketplace remains committed to supporting local organizations and addressing food insecurity in the region.
