Details:

The Arts & Culture Grants Program is seeking applications of high artistic and/or cultural quality, with an emphasis on activities that support and celebrate the San Leandro community.

Funding Information

In 2025, nonprofit organization-led projects will be supported with grants of up to $10,000 and individual-led projects will be supported with grants of up to $5,000 from a $75,000 grant fund.

Eligible Expenses 

Individuals and nonprofit organizations may apply for a grant to support specific arts and culture projects including dance, music, theater, visual, literary, media arts, interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary arts, traditional/folk arts, culture, and performing arts.

Project-related eligible expenses include:

  • Supplies and materials including project-related food and non-alcoholic beverages, for example, food and beverages for an art show/artist reception
  • Services, for example, videographer, photographer, or graphic designer
  • Wages of artistic or administrative staff
  • Operating costs (rent, utilities, taxes, insurance, local travel)
  • Rehearsal/performance space
  • Marketing, promotion, and publicity.

Eligibility Criteria 

Grant applicants must meet the following conditions in order for their application to be considered for a grant.

  • All Applicants:
    • San Leandro-based nonprofit organizations or individual creators, artists, or culture bearers living in San Leandro will be considered for funding.
    • Dance, music, theater, visual, literary, media arts, interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary arts, traditional/folk arts, culture, and performing arts and culture projects are eligible for grant funding through this program.
    • Only one application for one arts and culture project will be accepted per nonprofit organization or individual in the 2024-2025 funding cycle.
  • Individual Creators, Artists, or Culture Bearers:
    • Individual applicants must provide proof of San Leandro residency by submitting a digital/electronic copy of a rental agreement or utility bill which clearly lists the applicant’s residential address. For individual applicants that are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must provide the required documentation.
    • Individual applicants cannot be a City of San Leandro employee.
    • Individual applicants must have a portfolio with examples of work.
    • If under 18 years of age on the application deadline of Friday, February 28, 2025, an individual applicant must have a parent or legal guardian co-sign the application. Adult co-signers must also sign the contract and receive grant funds, if awarded.
  • Nonprofit Organizations:
    • To apply, organizations must be a federally recognized nonprofit with an IRS 501(c)(3) status number and determination letter. Organizations seeking to apply through a Fiscal Sponsor may be considered on a case-by-case basis. A Fiscal Sponsor is a 501(c)(3) incorporated nonprofit organization qualified to receive and disburse funds on behalf of an unincorporated organization. Any Fiscal Sponsor applying for pass-through funds to support an unincorporated group must be San Leandro-based and meet all other eligibility requirements stipulated for incorporated organizations as contained in these guidelines.
    • Organizations must be operational for at least twelve (12) months before the application due date.
