Activities considered eligible for assistance include but are not limited to, those that increase tourism by promoting and distributing information to attract and welcome visitors and marketing events and festivals designed to draw overnight lodging to Chemung County. All applications will be reviewed and prioritized based on their impact on the county’s sales tax and tourism generation.
The expected outcome of such activities is to increase economic activity in the County of Chemung through overnight lodging, visitor spending on dining, and attractions, and the sale of gifts, souvenirs, and other items to visitors and tourists.
Funding Information
- Tier 1: Micro Grants (up to $5,000)
- Hosting a local food or beverage festival to showcase local cuisine Creating a self-guided walking tour or mobile app to highlight local attractions and points of interest Developing promotional materials, such as brochures or maps, to distribute to visitors Providing training or assistance to local tourism-related businesses to improve customer service and visitor experience Offering small grants or loans to local entrepreneurs to support the development of new tourism-related companies or products.
- Tier 2: Small Grants ($5,001 – $15,000)
- Developing a marketing campaign to promote a local event or festival to attract overnight visitors Offering incentives or discounts to encourage overnight stays at local lodging establishments Creating a mobile visitor center or information booth to provide information and assistance to visitors Providing training or technical assistance to local tourism-related businesses to improve marketing or online presence.
- Tier 3: Medium Grants ($15,001 – $30,000)
- Developing a new tourism-related product or experience, such as a guided tour or outdoor adventure activity Creating a multi-destination itinerary or tourism package to encourage longer stays in the area. Developing a destination management plan to guide future tourism-related development and growth Rehabilitating or improving a historic or cultural site to enhance its tourism appeal.
Eligible Activities
Eligible activities for tourism grant funding include but are not limited to, events, festivals, and promotional materials that help attract and welcome visitors. Funds may not be utilized for capital or infrastructure improvements.
Requirements
- Successful grant recipients must utilize monies in the 2025 calendar year.
- These funds are not intended to be utilized for infrastructure or capital improvements.
