OJA is seeking proposals from qualified organizations or entities to design and implement a back-to-school transition program for youth ages 13-18. The goal is to equip youth with essential skills related to school readiness, basic and independent life skills “life skills”, and personal development opportunities to support a successful transition back to formal education settings and reducing delinquent behaviors.
The goal is to support evidence-based or promising delinquency intervention and prevention programs that assist youth in the development of protective factors. Developing life skills, school readiness, and personal growth during adolescence lays the foundation for a successful and fulfilling adulthood. Life skills such as, but not limited to, problem-solving, communication, and emotional regulation assist the development of skills necessary for decision making. School readiness prepares youth for their transition into a formal education setting and enhances their ability to develop skills such as time management, self-discipline, and teamwork. Personal development incorporates large scale focal points such as goal setting, self-awareness, and resilience. Together, these areas empower adolescents to succeed in careers, support communities, and lead purpose-driven lives.
Objectives
- To provide funding for evidenced-based or promising comprehensive back to school transition programs targeting youth ages thirteen (13) to eighteen (18).
- To increase youth’s development of life skills to enhance decision making and development of healthy relationships.
- To increase readiness skills for the youth’s transition back to formal education settings.
- To support youth’s personal development related to emotional growth and establishment of protective factors.
Funding Information
- The SAG has $470,000.00 that may be divided among selected applicants.
- No single award made directly to a private non-profit organizations, or institutions which operate primarily for scientific, educational, public service, charitable, or similar secular public purpose, which are not under public supervision or control, and which have been held by the IRS to be tax-exempt under the provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, may exceed $50,000.
- No single award made directly to units of local government, school districts, or Tribal Nations may exceed $250,000.
Target Populations
Youth in need of protective factor development to strengthen and support delinquency prevention or interrupt further juvenile justice system involvement.
Eligibility Criteria
- This solicitation is open to all public agencies, including, but not limited to, units of local government, school districts, Tribal Nations, and private nonprofit organizations, or institutions which operate primarily for scientific, educational, public service, charitable, or similar secular public purpose, which are not under public supervision or control, and which have been held by the IRS to be tax-exempt under the provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Private Non-Profit Organizations: Pursuant to 28 CFR § 31.301(b)(4), to be eligible for tribal pass-through funding, all non-profit organizations must
- be designated by a Tribal Nation(s) on the “Designation of Organization to Utilize Tribal Funds”
- certify in writing that it has applied for and been denied funding by a unit of local government
- No person shall be excluded from participation, be denied the benefits, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination or denied employment in connection with the awarding of grants on the grounds of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or disability.
