The Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (Byrne SCIP) furthers the U.S. Department of Justice (US DOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) mission by assisting state, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence, with a particular focus on gun violence and the programs and initiatives that target the risk factors that are likely to lead to this kind of violence.
Program Areas and Objectives
- Parent, youth, victim services, and suicide firearm reduction, education and outreach.
- Provide outreach and education to youth who are most at risk of involvement with gun violence.
- Provide resources and referrals to parents/guardians of youth at risk of gun violence involvement and suicide.
- Develop and implement community violence intervention models.
- Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO) information and training.
- Develop and implement ERPO intervention models.
- Prevent future incidents of gun violence by utilizing intervention strategies.
- Provide counseling to address and heal trauma, and/or peer mentoring to provide guidance and positive role models for youth.
- Young adult “transformational mentorship” programs.
- Prevent future incidents of intimate partner violence using intervention efforts.
- Counseling to address and heal trauma, direct advocacy services, and support groups for victims of intimate partner violence.
Funding Information
- Minimum Request – $150,000
- Maximum Award – $400,000.
Grant Period
The grant period for subawards to units of government is 20 months, beginning October 1, 2025, and ending March 31, 2027.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be a unit of government. The unit of government must partner with one or more CBO (identified in the application) and develop a detailed program plan and budget for the project, as well as an official (signed) memorandum of agreement (MOA) between all entities included in the proposed project. Eligible programming must encompass intervention efforts throughout the entire project.
