Grant Duration: 2 Years
Details:
The focus is on:
- Preventative supports rather than clinical mental health services that focus on diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions
- Non-clinical, community -based supports in settings outside of traditional healthcare clinical environments
- Supports with a clear and direct impact on the mental health or well-being of historically marginalized Central Texans.
The mental health and well-being supports encompass a broad range of non-clinical assistance that is culturally grounded and promotes well-being, often in group settings, through connection, culture, safety, and shared experience. Supports can be provided by community members, elders, or peer support workers.
Foundation seeks to invest in community-based organizations in the Central Texas region currently working to:
- Increase non-clinical mental health and well-being supports for historically marginalized communities within trusted, accessible, community spaces. Supports may be related to improving mental health (e.g., education, coordination of services, connection to clinical services) or mental well-being (e.g., connection, movement, healing activities, peer support, support groups). Spaces could include schools, faith communities, libraries, barbershops, and other culturally resonant spaces that can become long-term mental wellness access points.
- Increase the number of culturally responsive providers within community-based organizations. This could include training for peer support specialists and community health workers, or activating individuals from the communities with the greatest health needs to provide support and care that honors and understands someone’s culture.
