The program goal is to build capacity to maintain and repair infrastructure in the insular areas, including short term repairs, tools and equipment, with the goal of spurring economic growth.
Maintenance Assistance Program (MAP) funding is used to support, develop, improve, and institutionalize infrastructure maintenance practices in the seven insular areas. Activities will support maintenance training to extend the life of island infrastructure, promote economic growth, ensure the safety of maintenance technicians, and increase the capacity of infrastructure to withstand extreme events; this includes training of maintenance technicians that increases knowledge and awareness of measures to be taken to protect infrastructure, including from tropical weather impacts.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants are non-federal entities such as local government agencies (including utilities) in the territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and in the Freely Associated States which are the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau; hospitals/health centers, institutions of higher education and any non-profit organizations whose projects directly benefit the seven insular areas.
