The Fund for Reno County is an unrestricted grantmaking fund managed by the Hutchinson Community Foundation. It aims to address the evolving needs of Reno County by providing flexible financial support.
Proposals to the Fund for Reno County give foundation representatives—including board members, community volunteers, and staff—a chance to hear directly from the community about its challenges and opportunities.
There are two main types of grants available. Community & Economic Development grants support projects that strengthen the local economy and community. This can include efforts to build a diverse workforce, revitalize downtown areas, support current businesses, attract new ones, and encourage entrepreneurs. It also covers placemaking projects in public spaces and improvements to housing quality and accessibility. The maximum request for this category is $50,000.
The Strong Organizations grants focus on increasing the capacity, sustainability, and resilience of community-based organizations in Reno County. The maximum request for this type is $7,500.
Eligible applicants must be organizations exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and serve Reno County, Kansas. Special purpose government units may apply for innovative projects. Community groups without 501(c)(3) status can apply if they have a fiscal sponsor that is tax-exempt. Individual applicants or organizations that do not meet these criteria will not be considered.
Applicants are expected to operate without discrimination based on race, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, creed, or ethnicity.
