The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is now accepting applications for its Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program. This competitive grant program supports the development of the middle-of-the-supply-chain for Utah-based food and farm businesses.
Eligible projects may include activities such as aggregation, processing, manufacturing, storage, transportation, wholesaling, and distribution of locally and regionally produced food products. Accepted food products include dairy, grains for human consumption, fruits and vegetables, aquaculture, and others. Meat, poultry, wild-caught seafood, animal feed, fiber, landscaping products, tobacco, and dietary supplements are not eligible.
Funding priorities focus on improving distribution, processing, manufacturing, wholesaling, regular and cold storage, and aggregation opportunities for Utah producers. Grants range from $10,000 to $100,000 per project.
The grant period starts in September 2025 and projects must be completed by December 15, 2025. In this round, only equipment-only grants will be offered. Eligible purchases may include packaging equipment, processing machinery for canning or pasteurizing, extraction tools, crop processing equipment, value-added product creation tools, storage and distribution infrastructure, and equipment to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Eligible applicants include agricultural producers or processors, groups of producers or processors, nonprofit and for-profit entities operating in middle-of-the-supply-chain activities, local and tribal governments, and institutions like schools or hospitals collaborating on shared infrastructure. Applicants must be domestically owned, headquartered in Utah, and have at least 50% of their product grown or raised in Utah. Cooperatives and farmer- or worker-owned enterprises are especially encouraged to apply.
