The Title V Competitive Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program provides funding for projects that promote sexual risk avoidance education. Its main goal is to teach youth to voluntarily refrain from nonmarital sexual activity through age-appropriate and evidence-based approaches.
The grant is offered by the Administration for Children & Families and is available in selected states, covering all counties. The grant awards range between $100,000 and $500,000, with a total estimated program funding of $3,683,467. The grant period is two years, and applications are due by July 22, 2025.
Projects must place a clear and primary focus on promoting the health benefits of avoiding nonmarital sex. All content must be medically accurate, using information supported by peer-reviewed scientific, educational, or governmental sources. Programs should use strategies based on proven research and tailored to the specific needs of their audience.
Education efforts must highlight the value of personal responsibility, goal setting, self-regulation, and making healthy decisions. Programs should also address the physical, emotional, and financial benefits of delaying sexual activity and should work to prevent behaviors such as sexual coercion, dating violence, underage drinking, and drug use. Activities should be culturally sensitive and consider the diverse backgrounds of participating youth.
Eligible applicants include a broad range of organizations, such as federally recognized Native American tribal governments, nonprofit organizations with or without 501(c)(3) status, for-profit organizations (including small businesses), city and county governments, independent school districts, housing authorities, and institutions of higher education (both public and private).
