The Great Smokies Health Foundation is announcing the 2025-2026 Community Grant cycle, previously known as the Thrift Shop Grant Program. This initiative aims to enhance the health and well-being of residents in Jackson, Swain, Macon, and Graham counties in North Carolina by promoting access to vital services and programs.
The foundation’s mission is to improve health outcomes by focusing on areas like preventative and primary care, oral health, mental health, nutrition, and food access. It also seeks to remove barriers to health and safety for vulnerable populations. The funding is aimed at organizations working to support these critical needs within the community.
Grants of up to $7,500 per year are available, with funding provided for a two-year period, allowing for a total award of up to $15,000. Eligible applicants include IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, and educational institutions located within the service area of the four counties. Nonprofits must be compliant with state charitable solicitation statutes and have a current Charitable Solicitation License from the North Carolina Secretary of State.
Agencies that are in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) status may still apply for funding under the umbrella of a fiscal agent with established nonprofit status. However, certain entities and requests are ineligible, including for-profit entities, medical research, or funding for religious activities, fundraising events, and transitional housing programs.
Applications for this grant cycle must be submitted by July 14, 2025, to be considered for funding.
