Applications are now being accepted for the Community Grant Program, which supports a broad range of organizations and programs. The funding focuses on initiatives in areas like human services, including food security, mental health, and housing, as well as arts and culture, education, youth services, health, the environment, and civic affairs. Priority is given to organizations that serve historically marginalized and under-funded communities based on factors like race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, socioeconomic status, health, abilities, or geographic location.
The grants provide general operating support, which can include unrestricted funds or specific support such as program planning and implementation, technology, equipment, or material costs. They can also cover strategic planning, staff and board development, marketing, communications, and investments to increase organizational capacity.
Funding available will vary by county, with a total of $350,000 awarded across Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster counties in the 2024-2025 cycle. Organizations can request anywhere from $2,500 to $20,000, although most grants will fall within the $2,500 to $7,500 range.
Eligible applicants include tax-exempt organizations located in or serving residents of Dutchess, Putnam, or Ulster counties. These organizations must have 501(c)(3) status or an established fiscal sponsorship arrangement with a 501(c)(3). However, grants will not be awarded to individuals, political or partisan causes, lobbying activities, loan reimbursements, retroactive expenses, endowments, religious organizations for sacramental purposes, schools (except for specific community service programs), private foundations, or for-profit organizations.
Applications are reviewed based on several criteria, including the feasibility of the organization or program, the community need addressed, and how the project promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. Organizations that foster trust and collaborative participation within the community and maintain connections with underserved and economically diverse groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
