The Organizational Development (OD) Grants support strategic projects designed to strengthen nonprofits’ resilience now and in the future.
The Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC) focuses on building Healthy, Safe, and Vibrant communities throughout Monterey County, California. Their grant programs aim to make a measurable impact by supporting people and places in the region. The OD Grants help nonprofits address unique management or leadership challenges or improve their internal operations to better advance their mission.
Successful OD projects include organizations that enhanced volunteer and donor engagement by upgrading their Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and training staff, leading to greater efficiency and mission focus. Other grantees used funds to hire consultants who guided leadership transitions, ensuring continuity and preserving institutional knowledge. Some emerging nonprofits secured funding for strategic planning facilitated by experts, which energized boards and strengthened commitment to their mission.
About $50,000 in total funding is available. OD grants range from $5,000 to $10,000 each.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, fiscally sponsored groups, and occasionally other public benefit organizations serving Monterey County residents. Fiscal sponsors can apply on behalf of multiple groups as well as themselves. Organizations within a collaborative can apply separately if their projects differ. Receiving multiple types of CFMC grants in the same year is allowed, provided the grants serve different purposes. Businesses and individuals are generally not eligible, except for social enterprises affiliated with local nonprofits.
All applicants must be current on reporting for any previous CFMC grants.
