The Maternity Group Home (MGH) program offers street-based outreach, safe and stable shelter, and comprehensive services for pregnant and/or parenting youth ages 16 to under 22, along with their dependent children. Shelter is provided for up to 18 months, with a possible extension to 21 months under special circumstances.
Youth eligible for the program must meet one or more criteria, such as having run away or left home without permission, being forced to leave home, lacking a safe living situation with a parent or guardian, having no other safe housing options, or being homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Beyond shelter, MGH programs deliver outreach and services aimed at helping youth transition to self-sufficiency and independent living. Participants are expected to make progress in four key outcome areas: safe and stable housing, education or employment, permanent connections, and social and emotional well-being.
Services offered by MGH programs include parenting skills training, child development education, family budgeting support, and health and nutrition education.
The grant provides funding between $100,000 and $350,000 per award, with a total estimated program funding of over $8 million. The grant duration is three years.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status, excluding institutions of higher education), Native American tribal governments (both federally recognized and others), city, county, and state governments, special district governments, private and public institutions of higher education, public housing authorities, and independent school districts.
