Virginia Humanities is currently accepting applications for its UVA Wise Grants. These grants support projects in nine counties across Virginia, including Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wise counties.
Grant amounts range from $1,000 to $10,000, with awards up to $5,000. The grant period runs from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, and projects are funded for one year. Funding supports a variety of activities such as community forums, public discussions, community history projects like oral histories, academic conferences with public engagement, and curriculum resources for K-12 classrooms.
Grants also support exhibits, festivals, performances, teacher programs, lectures, media productions including films, podcasts, and websites, as well as project planning and print publications. Travel expenses for project personnel, including mileage and meals, can also be covered.
To be eligible, applicants must be nonprofit organizations located within the specified nine counties. Applicants cannot have more than one open Virginia Humanities or Regional Center grant at a time, and must complete and have approved a final report on any previous grants before applying again. Funding for the same project may be awarded in two grant cycles, but not more than twice.
