Applications are now open for the 2026 Lana Jordan Developing Artists Grants, offered through Salina Arts & Humanities in Saline County, Kansas. The deadline to apply is November 1, 2025.
Part of the Horizons Grants Program, this funding opportunity is made possible by private donors and administered by Salina Arts & Humanities staff. Final grant decisions are approved by the Salina Arts & Humanities Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) board that also determines the annual budget for the program.
The Lana Jordan Developing Artist Grants were established in 1987 to support artists in creating new work, promoting artistic growth, building community partnerships, and engaging the public. Grants typically range from $500 to $3,000 and must be used for projects completed between February 1 and November 30. In exceptional cases, awards may go up to $10,000. Artists may submit up to two applications per cycle, with a combined request not exceeding $3,000.
Funding may be used for a variety of purposes including presenting a new work, study and training, artistic promotion, equipment purchases, and travel. Examples include materials and supplies, mentorships, workshops, or the rental of public venues.
Eligible applicants are visual, performing, digital, literary, or interdisciplinary artists who have demonstrated dedication to their craft but have not yet become full-time, established professionals. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must have lived in Saline County for at least one year prior to the deadline.
Artists awarded a Developing Artist Grant must wait one year before applying for another Horizons grant. While artists do not need to earn a living exclusively through their art, they should show a commitment to pursuing a professional career when feasible. Final eligibility decisions rest with Salina Arts & Humanities based on their guidelines.
