The LGBTQ+ Heritage Alliance is offering the first national grant program focused on preserving places tied to LGBTQ+ culture and history. This program is open to applicants across all U.S. states and territories, including American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
Grants range from $500 to $5,000, with a total of $75,000 available. The application deadline is July 21, 2025, and funded projects will take place between Fall 2025 and Summer 2027. These grants aim to support efforts that document, recognize, and preserve LGBTQ+ historic sites, helping tell a fuller and more inclusive story of U.S. history.
Projects must involve LGBTQ+ historically significant sites and may include research, documentation, and interpretation work. Special attention will be given to applications that highlight marginalized groups within the LGBTQ+ community, such as people of color, Indigenous and Two-Spirit individuals, transgender and non-binary people, people with disabilities, and others whose histories have often been overlooked.
The program welcomes applications from individuals, nonprofit organizations, and those working with a fiscal sponsor. Fiscal sponsors must be tax-exempt and take full responsibility for the grant’s administrative and legal requirements. For-profit businesses, companies, and local governments are not eligible. Ineligible project types include political advocacy, general oral history collections, documentaries, social media accounts, and book publications.
