The Presser Foundation is now accepting applications for its Special Projects Grant Program, designed to support music organizations whose needs fall outside the Foundation’s regular grantmaking categories. This program offers an opportunity for newer organizations and those affected by policy or funding changes to receive general operating support or resilience funding.
Grants typically range from $5,000 to $25,000 annually and are available to music nonprofits working in a wide variety of traditions, genres, and styles. For the 2025–26 funding cycle, the Special Projects Committee will focus on two types of applicants: newly established music organizations (up to five years old) and small music nonprofits impacted by government funding or policy shifts.
Organizations with operating budgets under $150,000 may apply for Resilience Grants of up to $7,500. These funds may be used to support artistic or organizational development, seek legal or fundraising guidance, explore collaboration with other nonprofits, or address other needs tied to maintaining core operations amid a changing funding environment.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit music organizations, such as those offering performance, presenting, or pre-collegiate music education. This includes youth ensembles, after-school music programs, preparatory divisions, and community music schools. K-12 schools are not directly supported, though nonprofits offering school-based programming may be considered.
Applicants must be located within a 75-mile radius of Philadelphia, covering parts of Pennsylvania (including Harrisburg), Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland. Organizations in the New York City and Baltimore metro areas are not eligible.
The Foundation evaluates proposals based on the strength of the organization, how well it serves its community, its program effectiveness, and its commitment to equitable access to music. Projects that are part of an organization’s standard programming—like annual festivals or large traditional performances—are not eligible under this special funding stream.
All funded projects must adhere to the proposal submitted. Any significant changes require prior approval from the Foundation. Failure to comply may result in loss of funding or future grant eligibility.
Applications for the Special Projects Grant Program are due by September 15, 2025.
