Grants are awarded to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organizations that focus on basic human needs, such as food; clothing; housing and/or rental assistance; utility assistance; transportation assistance; medical and/or prescription assistance; domestic violence support; basic toiletries and hygiene products; basic educational assistance such as GED; appliances or equipment to provide direct services for clients; and facility or infrastructure improvements. The organizations they consider for support are located primarily in Montgomery, Miami, Greene, Preble and Warren (north) counties.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a grant, your organization must:
- be recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, according to the Internal Revenue Code
- be established for at least two years as a nonprofit organization and have a track record of sustainability
- benefit citizens who are homeless, poor or hungry in the Greater Dayton Region
- demonstrate a commitment to creating opportunities and access for all individuals in organizational practices
- demonstrate systemic collaboration with other human needs service providers
- address needs that are not met fully by existing organizational or community resources
- wait at least two years from the most recent Basic Human Needs Grant award date to apply for another Basic Human Needs Grant.
