Mental Health and Safety Services Funding for Trans and Nonbinary Youth in Ohio

The City of Cincinnati Mental Health and Safety Services funding for Transgender and Nonbinary Youth will support creative ideas and approaches that address a range of challenges facing transgender and nonbinary youth, with the term “youth” defined as individuals through the age of 24 residing within the City of Cincinnati.

Details:

Given this broad definition, the scope of work is flexible and will vary depending on the applicant and their strengths. They believe that community is best positioned to recognize the solutions that will best benefit their communities. The goals of the Grant Fund Program are:

  • Provide program services and support to fill gaps in existing health and safety services;
  • Procure additional services to fill those gaps;
  • Collaborate with schools, local foundations, health care providers, and other nonprofit partners to promote the Services; and
  • Track the impact of this funding.

Grant awards shall be made through an open, fair, and accessible competitive application process developed and designed by Community Shares of Greater Cincinnati that prioritizes:

  • Projects from organizations with less than a $1 million operating budget; and
  • Demonstrated experience working with transgender and nonbinary youth, BIPOC youth, and youth from a range of socioeconomic levels.

Funding Information

Grant awards to not exceed $50,000 annually for two years.

Use of Funding

Grant awards from the Funds shall be utilized to assist with the awarded projects in any of the following ways:

  • To support, expand or strengthen existing programs identified in the application and approved in the award; or
  • To launch a new community service program; or
  • To build organizational capacity by developing competencies, strategies, systems, and structures in order to improve organizational effectiveness; or
  • When necessary to protect the health and safety of project participants, and/or when helpful to promote participant engagement in project activities, funding can be used for inexpensive food and non-alcoholic beverages to participants. However, each event at which grant funds will be used to provide refreshments requires advanced individual approval from the Director of Human Services in the City Manager’s Office through submitting requests to Community Shares of Greater Cincinnati.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants shall comply with and be able to document the following minimum requirements:

  • Is classified as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the IRS 501(c)(3) or utilizes a 501(c)(3) fiscal agent identified in the application;
  • Serves the needs of neighborhoods within the geographic boundaries of the City of Cincinnati;
  • Has measurable metrics for the proposed use of the grant funds; and
  • Has a satisfactory program budget which is complete, aligns with the scope of work, and takes into account the full scope of funding needed to support the proposed program model.
