The purpose of the grant is to support the work of Oregon OSHA (the Division). The Oregon Legislature has set aside funding to help develop new and creative ways to improve workplace safety and health training and education.

Goals

The goals of the Oregon OSHA Grant Program are to:

  • Support the creation of new ways to offer safety and health training, in addition to what Oregon OSHA already does.
  • Develop projects and activities that match Oregon OSHA’s overall goals.
  • Get more employers and workers to take part in safety and health training.
  • Help new people or groups offer safety and health programs for workers and employers.
  • Check how well the new training ideas and programs are working.
  • Support training programs that help managers and workers work together.

Funding Information

Each biennium, the Division offers funding for a limited number of grant contracts, if funds are available. For this biennium, the Division set aside $360,000 in its budget. The Division gives grant money in part after it receives and approves quarterly reports. The Division does not have to award the full $360,000. In most cases, grant awards will be no more than $40,000 per approved project, unless the Division agrees to give more.

Eligibility Criteria

Any labor consortium, employer consortium, educational institution that is affiliated with a labor organization or employer group, or other nonprofit entity, may apply for an Occupational Safety and Health Grant as provided in ORS 654.189 and ORS 654.191, and in accordance with OAR 437-001-0800 through OAR 437-001-0810.

  • Authorized Person. If the Project Director can’t sign legal documents for the grant, the organization must name someone else who can.

Ownership

All training materials created with this grant will become public property once they are finished. These projects are made specifically for Oregon employers and employees. The Division can copy, share, and use these materials, and can also allow others to use them, if they are used for the training and education planned in the grant program.
