Details:

Each postpartum doula grant provides $1,200 for the purchase of postpartum doula services. Grant recipients shall apply their $1,200 award toward the postpartum services of any professionally certified doula serving the Omaha metro area. Omaha Better Birth Project has partnered with several doulas who have pledged to provide their postpartum doula services to grant awardees at no more cost than the grant provides. If a grant recipient chooses to hire a doula who is not an Omaha Better Birth Project Partner, the recipient will be responsible for any additional costs the doula may charge.

Eligibility Criteria

  • All applicants must be at 15 and 32 weeks pregnant
  • All applicants must be planning to birth in the Omaha metro area at either a hospital or birth center.
  • All applicants must either (1) meet the low-income criteria per the Nebraska WIC guidelines Or (2) be 19 years of age or less. Verification required with proof income or age.

Responsibilities of Grant Recipients

  • Grant recipients are responsible for signing the grant agreement and submitting proof of income and identification documents. Grants will not be disbursed until these steps have been completed.
  • Grant recipients are responsible for interviewing and hiring a professionally trained birth doula of their choice, ensuring the doula’s availability for the recipients estimated due date.
  • Grant recipients are responsible for any cost of the hired doula beyond the grant value of $1,400.
  • Grant recipients must notify Omaha Better Birth Project of their selected doula.
  • Grant recipients must agree and commit to any contracts or agreements between the doula and themselves.
  • Grant recipients must agree to complete a postpartum follow-up survey from Omaha Better Birth Project about their birth experience, outcomes, and the grant process (you may request to view the survey before accepting the grant).
