The Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation’s competitive grants support schools, school districts, non-profits, Pueblos, Nations, and tribal communities in the Foundation’s seven-county service area of Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Miguel, Santa Fe, and Taos counties.

Details:

The competitive grants support a spectra of projects that provide innovative community and school-based programming, collaboration, and advocacy for lifelong learning.

The goal is to uplift and invest in tribally driven, culturally grounded education initiatives that serve K-12 students in Northern New Mexico. Whether launching something new or building on existing efforts, the LANL Foundation seeks to fund innovative or disruptively innovative programs that reflect community values and vision.

Innovation can mean:

  • Reintroducing or revitalizing traditional knowledge systems in the classroom
  • Designing community-led curricula that connect culture, language, and academics
  • Creating new models for student engagement, mentorship, or intergenerational learning
  • Applying technology, land-based learning, or art in ways that reflect community identity
  • Rethinking school-community partnerships to better serve students.

What the Foundation is Looking For?

  • Initiatives developed by or led by Tribal Nations or Pueblos
  • Culturally rooted approaches to teaching and learning
  • Projects that aim to strengthen student success and community well-being.

Funding Information

  • Total Available Funding: $100,000
  • Grant Amount per Award: $25,000.

Grant Period

One year.

Eligibility Criteria

Initial eligibility considerations include:

  • Each proposal must include a Letter of Support from Tribal leadership
  • Only one proposal per Tribal Nation or Pueblo may be submitted. Eligible Tribes/Nations/Pubelos include: Cochiti Pueblo, Jemez Pueblo, Jicarilla Apache Nation, Kewa Pueblo, Laguna Pueblo, Pueblo of Nambe, Navajo Nation, Ohkay Owingeh, Picuris Pueblo, Pueblo of Pojoaque, San Felipe Pueblo, Pueblo de San Ildefonso, Pueblo of Sandia, Santa Ana Pueblo, Pueblo of Santa Clara, Taos Pueblo, Tesuque Pueblo, and Zia Pueblo.
  • The work being proposed must happen within LANL Foundation’s area of impact: San Miguel, Sandoval, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, Taos, Mora, or Los Alamos counties
  • There must be no conflict of interest with current LANL Foundation Board or staff
  • Current, up-to-date filings with the IRS and NMCOROS (if applying entity is a 501(c)3).
