The Early Care and Education Grant program will help fund early care and education services for children birth to age five. Organizations that work with these children in SMIF’s 20-county region are eligible to apply.
Funding Information
Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation anticipates awarding approximately $200,000 in grants with individual requests of up to $20,000.
Allowable Uses
Allowable uses include (all in the early care range of birth to age five):
- Social, emotional, physical, and mental health supports & curriculum
- Training and development to operate and address the needs of young children birth to age five more effectively.
- Other activities necessary to maintain the services in early care and education prioritizing the needs of underserved groups.
Grant Guidelines
- Only one application per organization will be considered
- Proposals must be submitted by an independent 501(c)(3) organization, public institutions and units or agencies of local, state, federal, and tribal government
- Projects are encouraged to support underserved & diverse populations
- Projects must serve 20-county region
- Projects must be completed within one year of the grant award date
Exclusions
Ineligible organizations or activities include:
- Individuals, businesses, or other for-profit organizations
- Nonprofit organizations other than IRS-designated 501(c)(3) organizations
- General operating expenses
- Capital funding, campaigns, or endowments
- Funds for re-granting or loan pools.
