This grant is intended to help organizations grow, strengthen their operations, and provide services to homeowners either engaging in or preparing to engage in home sharing activities. The goal is to ensure that more homeowners and tenants can successfully engage in home sharing, including expanding the number of home sharing units in Portland.
This is a 12-month home sharing grant pilot program designed to encourage homeowners with spare rooms to rent those rooms via a qualified home sharing provider or platform.
Use of Funds
Grants may be used in flexible ways to support your organization, which may include with City agreement:
- Staff salaries or participant stipends
- Program development or expansion
- Community outreach and education
- Equipment, supplies, or infrastructure (Funds may not be used for large-scale capital projects, building purchases, or real estate development.)
- Staff training or leadership development
- Communications or evaluation support.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organizations must meet the following two criteria to apply:
- Currently working on home sharing
- Be a nonprofit organization, community group, coalition, or fiscally sponsored project
- Applicants may choose the focus area(s) that further the purpose of this grant, which is to support organizations to grow, strengthen their operations, and support housing-related work. Some examples include:
- Strengthening your organization’s internal capacity
- Providing match making services to ensure homeowners and prospective tenants have shared needs and values
- Providing mediation support to homeowners and tenants engaged in home sharing activities
- Training programs related to home sharing
- Other programs to support community members in accessing home sharing
- Trying new ideas that respond to local needs and promote home sharing.
Ineligible Uses
Funds are not permitted to be used in work that is expressly political, in support of candidates or elections. Funds may not be used for lobbying, promoting or opposing legislation, or supporting political campaigns or candidates.
