The BBB Torch Awards for Ethics honors organizations whose leaders demonstrate a high level of personal character, ensure their business practices meet the highest standards of ethics, and, in doing so, build trust with their customers and communities. The Torch Award reflects BBB’s mission to advance trust in the marketplace.

Eligibility Criteria

The Torch Awards is open to for-profit and 501(c)(6) organizations of all sizes located within BBB Middle TN & Southern KY county service areas.

  • BBB Accreditation is not required
  • For profit and 501(c)(6) applicants must have a “B” rating with BBB
  • Organizations must have been in business for three years
  • All financial obligations must be met
  • Applicants are not eligible if they have received the Torch Award in the past three years (since 2023)
  • Government agencies are not eligible to submit an application

Judging Process

Companies entering the Torch Award competition will be judged in one of six categories based on the number of employees:

  • Small Business Category (1-10 employees)
  • Medium Business Category (11-50 employees)
  • Large Business Category(51-174 employees)
  • Extra Large Business Category (175+ employees)
  • Non-Profit 501c6 Categories
  • Small Category (1-25 employees)
  • Large Category (26+ employees)

Entries are evaluated by an independent, voluntary panel of judges comprised of business and community leaders. Your written submission should include examples, stories and documents, should provide a robust and accurate depiction of your organization’s focus on character, culture, customers and community. Supporting documents and attachments can range from handbooks, internal documentation, or photos from events.
