This program is designed to support nonprofit organizations seeking support for capital projects that strengthen the health and well-being of communities – through facility improvements.
Priorities
Through this grant opportunity, CSCHF aims to help organizations enhance the spaces where community gathers, learns, and thrives.
Capital improvement grants are intended to support projects that:
- Improve access to safe, inclusive, and welcoming community spaces
- Enhance or expand facilities that promote community engagement
- Address health, safety, or accessibility concerns
- Modernize or provide needed upgrades to existing community facilities for sustainability and long-term use
- Strengthen the capacity of nonprofit organizations to deliver health- and wellness related services.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for a Copper Shores grant or other means of financial support, the applicant must:
- Be recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; a local unit of government; or a public institution of education.
- Note: Applicants must be current with their IRS tax exempt organization determination and have a current License to Solicit Charitable Contributions (unless exempt under MC 400.283.).
- Be domiciled in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and/or Ontonagon counties in Michigan, and serve the citizens of the same.
- Have filed their most recent 990, 990-EX or 990-N filing.
- Have a certified financial audit or reviewed financial statements as required by state law; (Note: For all nonprofits with annual gross receipts of $250K or less, Copper Shores requests CPA prepared complied financial statements for their most recently completed fiscal year).
- Have adequate and demonstrated organizational capacity to successfully execute the proposed grant, including all reporting requirements.
