The Storefront Opportunity Grant (SOG) provides a grant between $50,000 – $100,000 to eligible businesses to help offset the cost of their first year of operations. Funding is at the City’s sole discretion.
Program Goals:
- Activate vacant commercial spaces with sustainable small businesses
- Lower barriers for local entrepreneurs to remain on commercial corridors
- Strengthen economic vitality of commercial corridors
Funding Tiers
- Retail / Personal Services – $50,000
- Food / Cafe (Limited or No seating) – $75,000
- Bar / Restaurants (Full-service) – $100,000
- Essential Neighborhood Amenities- $100,000
Eligibility Criteria
- Business eligibility
- Your business must:
- Be registered business with the City and County of San Francisco with an active BAN
- Have $5M or less in gross business revenue on most recent tax return
- Full-service grocery stores and pharmacies are exempt from this requirement
- Have 100 or fewer employees
- Have 3 or more years of business tax returns within the last 10 years
- Not have any open notices of violation with any City Department
- Have a proven track record of 3 or more years of operations
- Be in good standing with the California Secretary of State
- If you are suspended from the Franchise Tax Board (FTB), you are not eligible.

- The Storefront Opportunity Grant is only eligible in the boundaries below. If your newly signed lease is not within the program boundaries, your business is not eligible at this time.
- Bayview
- 3rd Street between Evans Avenue and Jamestown Avenue
- Chinatown
- In Chinatown, the strategy is to fill larger commercial vacancies. Only leases for commercial storefronts of 1000 sqft. of retail space or more will be considered
- Within the purple boundaries of Chinatown.
- Downtown
- Within the green boundaries.
- Mid-Market
- Market Street from 5th Street to Van Ness Avenue
- 5th Street to 9th Street between Market Street and Stevenson Street
- Stevenson Street from 5th Street to 9th Street
- Mission
- Mission street from 14th Street to Cesar Chavez Street
- Fillmore
- Fillmore Street between McAllister Street and Geary Boulevard
- The Port
- Port-owned properties only
- Hyde Street & Jefferson Street to Powell Street & Jefferson Street
- Powell Street & The Embarcadero to the Ferry Building/Ferry Plaza.
