Submit Applications for Community Grants (New York)

Dated: February 26, 2026

Non-profit organizations, civic groups, and government agencies serving Tompkins County residents are invited to apply to the Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library (FOL) for Community Organization Grants that support programs or projects that improve reading, literacy, education, or skills building.

Donor Name: Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library

State: New York

County: Tompkins County (NY)

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 03/31/2026

Size of the Grant: Less than $1000

Grant Duration: Grant Duration Not Mentioned

Details:

The primary beneficiaries of these grants should be those who do not read or are limited in their reading skills, with priority given to those programs or projects that target low-income or high-needs populations, or people in crisis, and those programs or projects that actively encourage learning rather than passively giving away books or educational materials. Grants should enhance FOL’s mission, which is to encourage a public that can use the library and understands its value as a community institution.

Funding Information

Grant amounts awarded typically range up to $1,000.

Guidelines

The considerations that guide FOL in awarding these grants are:

  • Projects and programs shall focus on (a) helping adults who can’t or don’t read, (b) placing books or reading materials in the hands of people in crisis, and/or (c) getting books in the hands of children.
  • Books (including eBooks), and educational materials and activities shall be considered for grants. Software and hardware that support these materials and activities may be considered for funding as well.
  • Grants may not be used to fund salaries and general operating expenses, nor as an ongoing part of the organization’s budget.  Furniture expenses (such as bookshelves etc.), consumable supplies (such as pens and paper, performance tickets, etc.), or fees are generally not funded.
  • Organizations must be located in Tompkins County or on its perimeter and must assist local residents.
  • The grant must be for a specific need. Explain this need and how your program or project addresses it in the application.
  • The organization must be a non-profit organization, or established for charitable or educational purposes, or a governmental agency.
  • Programs/projects shall be considered that require additional funding beyond the Community Organization Grant.
