For the sixth year, the Vibrant Communities Mental Health Grant Program supports organizations advancing mental health and well-being in the St. Croix Valley. In 2026, funding will be offered through two distinct grant opportunities: Regional Mental Health Grants and Local Building Community Connections Grant.
Types of Grants
- Regional Mental Health Grants (up to $10,000)
- For organizations serving multiple communities across the Foundation’s six-county region where mental health is central to their mission. Funding may be used for general operating or program support.
- Building Community Connections Grants (amounts vary)
- For local programs serving at least one of the Foundation’s nine affiliate communities that promote mental wellbeing by fostering connection, belonging, and engagement. Mental health does not need to be the organization’s primary mission, but funded programs must clearly support community wellbeing.

The Foundation and its affiliate partners have invested more than $800,000 in nonprofit organizations strengthening mental health across the region.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, partner with an eligible fiscal agent, or be a governmental entity, tribal entity, educational, or religious organization defined as tax-exempt
- Applicants must provide programming/services in at least one of the nine participating affiliate communities: Amery Area, Chisago Lakes Area, Hudson, Lower St. Croix Valley, New Richmond Area, Northwest Alliance, River Falls, Somerset, Stillwater Area.
- Regional Mental Health Grant (applicants must meet all of the following criteria):
- Regional organization: An organization that serves multiple communities across St. Croix Valley Foundation’s six-county region:
- Chisago, Washington (MN); Burnett, Polk, Pierce, St. Croix (WI)
- Mental health is a core part of the organization’s mission
- Programs must directly address and support mental health needs
- Building Community Connections Grants:
- Local organization serving at least one of St. Croix Valley Foundation’s nine affiliate communities Mental health does not need to be the primary mission
- Programs must demonstrate a clear connection between community engagement and mental well-being
