The Lafayette Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) offers competitive grants for Building Restoration projects for older buildings in Lafayette.
Objectives
The project must meet one of the following objectives:
- Extends the life of the building or preserves the historic fabric or character of the building. Histori materials may not be removed unless a case is made that the materials are beyond repair.
Funding Information
- $4,000 for designated historic landmarks
- $3,000 for all other structures.
Age of Building (House, Outbuilding, Barn, etc.):
50 years old or older.
Eligible Improvements
- Structural improvements like foundation repair.
- Restoration and repair of original windows and doors and weather sealing.
- Window and door replacement to match original design, based on historic photographs
- Roof repair or replacement.
- Installation of gutters and site drainage work.
- Removal and remediation of hazardous materials.
- Restoration and cleaning of masonry, including brick, stone and concrete. Concrete may be considered if it is a part of the structure.
- Repair and restoration of wood siding
- Repair and restoration of porches,stoops and onsite sidewalks.
- Restoration or reconstruction of original architectural details of the building, such as materials, porch, cornice and window details, using historic materials.
- Painting. A paint analysis to determine the original color is encouraged. Painting over brick is discouraged.
