Details:
The Byrne SCIP Program provides funding for the creation and/or implementation of state crisis intervention court proceedings, and related gun violence reduction programs/initiatives.
Equipment purchases with emphasis on the below areas.
- Programs/activities exclusively focused on response to crime in progress or already committed would not be considered crisis intervention.
- Examples could be but are not limited to:
- Virtual reality de-escalation training systems for law enforcement, first responders and other justice practitioners as they respond to persons in crisis.
- Supplies, equipment, technology, and training to safely secure, store, track, and
return relinquished guns, such as software or other technologies to track relinquished guns of those in crisis. - Implementation of case management systems to mitigate the risk of persons in crisis from committing gun violence.
- The application may include a combination of allowable expenses provided the application clearly explains all goals and objectives related to the different systems.
Funding Information
Grant range up to $250,000.
Grant Period
October 1, 2026, until September 30, 2027.
Eligibility Criteria
Units of local government on behalf of their law enforcement agencies. The state receives and makes these funds available to units of local government.
Unallowable Cost
In addition to the unallowable costs identified in the DOJ Grants Financial Guide, award funds may not be used for the following:
- Prizes, rewards, entertainment, trinkets (or any type of monetary incentive)
- Client stipends
- Gift cards
- Food and beverage
- Unmanned Aircraft Systems The use of BJA grant funds for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), including unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAV), and all accompanying accessories to support UAS or UAV, is unallowable.
