Strategic Opportujity Stipends (SOS) are a privately funded grant for artist career or arts organization specific opportunities. SOS is designed to support Tompkins County artists (of all disciplines) with a consistent record of producing art. The grant can be used for projects or opportunities that will have a significant and well documented or planned impact on the artist’s professional career or, due to COVID-19, for opportunities that help maintain an existing artist’s career. Artists can apply for costs associated with these specific projects or opportunities, such as travel costs, performance expenses, and exhibition costs.

Applicants can apply for $100 to $1,000, and can submit one request per deadline.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be either Tompkins County individual artists (or groups of local artists), or a Tompkins County not-for-profit arts organization. SOS does not fund not-for-profit organizations that do not have the delivery of arts programming as their primary focus and mission.
- Applicant artists must be current Tompkins County residents, have lived in Tompkins County since January 2022 and plan on living in Tompkins County through 2025. (Funding priority is given to longer term residents.)
