IFCC Grant and Residency Program in Oregon

IFCC will be activated through the IFCC Grant and Residency Program through early 2025, funded by the American Rescue Plan. This initiative is part of the City of Portland’s larger Relief and Recovery for Artists of Color program which supports Portland artists who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

What are the Goals of the IFCC Grant and Residency Program?

  • To support Portland artists who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • To support artists and arts organizations that align with IFCC’s Project Goals to:
    • Respect and honor IFCC’s history and roots in the Black community
    • Uphold IFCC’s original mission to explore, preserve and celebrate Portland’s diversity; and
    • Advance the City of Portland’s commitment to racial equity
  • To include artists in the Portland community from ALL levels in their professional careers across diverse disciplines
  • To provide time and space at IFCC for artists to develop and/or create work
  • To encourage and support partnership and collaboration among participating artists
  • To activate IFCC with public engagement, performances, events, etc. that align with the IFCC CAC’s Vision to “serve as an anchor facility where the history of Portland’s Black community, and its rich arts and culture contributions can be presented, displayed, discussed, and honored.”

There are two types of residencies with different grant amounts and supports:

  • Artist in Residence (AIR): One nine-week residency and $12,000 grant award
  • Artist and Facilitator in Residence (AFR): Two consecutive nine-week residencies (18 weeks total) and $16,000 grant award per nine-week residency ($32,000 total grant award)

Who can apply?

  • Grant Money
    • Applicants and program participants must demonstrate that their income was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic recession.
  • Artist in Residence (AIR)
    • Applicants’ artistic practice must align with IFCC’s Project Goals and the IFCC CAC’s Vision.
    • Artist or arts organizations working at any level and in wide-ranging disciplines including (but not limited to) visual arts, print, writing, multimedia, music (including bands), dance, theater, spoken word, and multidisciplinary performance are encouraged to apply.
  • Artist and Facilitator in Residence (AFR)
    • Applicants’ artistic practice must align with IFCC’s Project Goals and the IFCC CAC’s Vision.
    • Artist or arts organizations working in wide-ranging disciplines including (but not limited to) visual arts, print, writing, multimedia, music (including bands), dance, theater, spoken word, and multidisciplinary performance are encouraged to apply.
    • Applicants must also have:
      • Experience working with other artists or arts organizations
      • Demonstration of consistent practice supporting artists’ growth, development and capacity building
      • Proven ability to support multidisciplinary artists
      • Experience in community engagement and producing community events.

  • The following will be required of all grant and residency awardees:
    • Mailing address
    • Demographic info
    • Employee Identification Number (EIN) or Social Security Number (SSN)
    • W9 tax form
    • ACH bank account info
    • Signed space permit + $500 security deposit
    • Exit interview and/or exit survey.
