Details:

In 2014, the Hispanic Federation (HF) along with three community partners formed an alliance to provide capacity-building support to Black, Latino, and Asian-led community-based organizations (CBOs) throughout New York City. This pilot program named the Communities of Color Nonprofit Stabilization Fund (CCNSF) was designed to help strengthen community-based organizations and since its inception has helped to support 464 capacity-building projects for nonprofit organizations.

Funding Information

  • With the approval of your application, CCNSF will make awards of up to $35,000 for organizations with organizational budgets between $150,000 to $500,000 and awards of up to $45,000 for organizations with budgets that are $500,001 to $2 million.
  • Community-based organizations with budgets over $2 million are NOT eligible to apply.

Eligible Projects

The CCNSF capacity-building program aims to help organizations identify and address their most pressing organizational needs. Organizations may apply for funding in one of seven areas:

  • Information management systems design and development
  • Financial management and planning
  • Evaluation and outcomes system development
  • Leadership development
  • New program planning and development
  • Strategy and organizational development
  • Collaboration and strategic alliances

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for funding, organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code
  • Three years incorporated as a nonprofit.
  • Current registration with the Connecticut State Department of Consumer Protection Charities Unit.
  • Connecticut-based, direct social/human service organization serving Greater Hartford region ( association, referral or re-granting organizations )
  • Experience serving and currently serving communities where 51% or more of the residents are people of color.
  • Led by a chief executive officer who is Hispanic, Indigenous, African American or Asian Pacific-American, and/or is governed by a board with a majority of members who are Hispanic, Indigenous, African American or Asian Pacific-American.
  • Operating budget of at least $150,000 and a maximum of $2 million. Organizations with budgets over $2 million will not be eligible.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and addressing structural barriers that limit opportunity for people of color.
  • Demonstrated commitment and capacity to deliver culturally competent services, meeting the social, cultural, and linguistic needs of the community they serve.
  • Please note: Associations, referral or re-granting organizations and organizations that utilize fiscal sponsors/conduits are not eligible.
