Details:

Diverse City Fund is a grantmaking organization dedicated to racial & social justice that invests financial and social capital that transforms systems in DC. They fund and support efforts led by and rooted in communities of color to realize liberation, spark solutions, and organize against oppression of all kinds.

Funding Priorities

  • People of Color Led – Groups, organizations and coalitions whose core leadership and primary decision makers identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), and whose other identities may be women, LGBTQ+, youth, returning citizens, immigrants, people with disabilities, or excluded workers who have historically faced challenges securing traditional forms of funding.
  • Focused on DC Residents – Work that is organized and operated within the District of Columbia and primarily impacts DC residents of color or former residents who have been displaced or gentrified out of the city.
  • Engages in Mobilizing, Advocacy & Organizing, Healing, and Liberation – Projects advancing social change by addressing root causes of injustice through mobilizing people for direct actions; engaging in community organizing focused on power-building, campaigns or other systemic change, or advocacy focused on policy, administrative, or legal changes; or supporting organizer and/or community wellbeing (emotional, mental, spiritual, and/or cultural) toward building sustainable movements.
  • Social Justice Centered – Projects that amplify the leadership and voices of those directly-affected by the issues and needs being addressed. Work that takes action to create equitable outcomes and transfers power and resources to directly-affected communities.
  • Coalition Driven – In addition to funding individual organizations or projects, they support coalitions of three groups or more who are BIPOC led and collaborating to amplify their power.

Funding Information

  • Up to $5,000 to individual organizations
  • Up to $15,000 to coalition projects.

Eligibility Criteria

  • This opportunity is available to any BIPOC-led, DC, community-based organizations or groups, including startups, located in Washington DC.
  • Nonprofit status is not required but groups will need to secure a fiscal agent before funds can be distributed.
