THCI is seeking proposals from cross-sector collaborations that will use upstream approaches to address priority topics for the respective Texas Health regions their organizations serve. Upstream approaches seek to reduce health inequities by focusing on factors that impact health such as the role of stress, adverse childhood experiences, poverty, education, and social policies.

This THCI Denton-Wise Region’s Strategic Plan 2023-2024 (hereafter referred to as the “Strategic Plan”) is a blueprint for community agencies to address gaps in healthcare access. The Strategic Plan represents the THCI Denton-Wise Leadership Council’s commitment to build upon past successes while advancing the mission of Texas Health Resources to improve the health of the people in the communities they serve. Those successes include, but are not limited to the following:
- 24% increase in resiliency among youth and young adults in Sanger (76266 ZIP code)
- Providing an avenue for Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas to expand its services in Wise County in addressing resiliency in youth
- Identification of the THRIVE program as a promising practice and seeking to replicate it
The Denton-Wise Region continues to experience exponential growth. As they continue to expand at record paces (adding 104 people per day to the region), Denton and Wise Counties are struggling to build infrastructure and provide resources to their burgeoning populations, especially for those who live near the poverty level and/or lack sufficient insurance coverage (US Census Bureau). As a result, the Denton-Wise Council is narrowing the focus to target four ZIP codes – two ZIP codes in Denton County (Sanger, 76266 and Lewisville, 75057) and two ZIP codes in Wise County (Bridgeport, 76426 and Chico, 76431).
Funding Information
- Total funding available for the Denton-Wise Region is $1,300,000.00 to address the identified needs through collaborative and innovative programs in all four designated areas – Sanger, Lewisville, Bridgeport, and Chico.
Eligibility Criteria
The following is a non-exclusive list of potential lead organizations that may be eligible to apply:
- State, county, city, or township governments
- Independent school districts
- Public or state-controlled institutions of higher education
- Public housing authorities
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS
- Hospital systems can be a part of a collaboration but cannot serve as the lead applicant.
