This Urban Water RFP seeks to fund a specific set of work within that holistic systems approach-organizations in US cities that are working toward a particular One Water policy or program and are on the cusp of securing substantive change via integrated policy or regulation,innovative funding or financing, and/or inclusive governance and planning.
They are seeking applications from organizations or collaborations of organizations with leadership in the water or environmental sector, focus on a specific and timely policy initiative to secure change for urban communities, and the existing or nascent relationships needed to secure one or more of the following:
- Integrated Policy or Regulation,including for example,establishment of jurisdiction-wide permits incorporating green storm water infrastructure (e.g., MS4 and NPDES permits), water reuse or water conservation and efficiency ordinances, and/or policies that enable citizen enforcement or oversight to catalyze change;
- Innovative Funding or Financing,including for example, green bonds or environmental impact bonds, storm water fees, or other long-term funding for One Water strategies;
- Inclusive Governance and Planning, including for example, adoption of structures for co-leadership with communities and NGOs through task forces and local water coalitions and/or adoption of a formal One Water/Integrated Water Management plans with strong community buy-in.
Funding Information
Grants will range in amount from approximately $100,000 to $150,000 for a 12-month period.
Eligibility Criteria
- Primary grantee (organization directly receiving funds) must be a U.S.-based charitable institution recognized as a public charity pursuant to Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) or be fiscally sponsored by a public charity.
- Project will drive One Water policies and/or programs in an urban community through a specific policy, funding, and/or governance opportunity, tackle difficult water challenges,and provide multiple benefits for people and nature.
- Organizations have a clear strategy for achieving the proposed One Water policies and/or programs, as well as the relationships needed to successfully execute their strategy.
- Project is driven by strong community interest and would complement and help to accelerate existing efforts toward One Water.Projects that are led by and/or include meaningful involvement of at least one grassroots community-based organization will be prioritized for funding.
- Project’s One Water strategy would be instructive for other cities or urban water sheds facing similar water challenges.
