Community Grant Fund for Nonprofits based in Michigan

Dated: October 3, 2022

The Community Grant Fund invests in programs that align with their mission to reduce poverty in Kent County and their vision to create a thriving community for all.

Donor Name: Heart of West Michigan United Way

State: Michigan

County: Kent County (MI)

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 10/10/2022

Details:

Projects must align with United Way’s mission to reduce poverty by serving populations and individuals that fall within one of their focus areas.

  • Family Stability
    • Housing: United Way seeks to fund projects addressing immediate housing crises, as well as projects focused on obtaining and maintaining stable, affordable, and safe housing for families and individuals in Kent County.
    • Food Security: United Way seeks to fund efforts toward increasing food security for Kent County residents. Our focus is supporting programs that increase access to safe, equitable, affordable, and nutritiously diverse food. United Way doesn’t fund traditional food pantry services unless the services directly and authentically connect to building long-term food security for individuals and families.
    • Mental/Behavioral Health: United Way seeks to fund programs providing Kent County residents with access to high quality mental health services, including in-patient and out-patient mental health services. United Way focuses on funding for non-Medicaid recipients only, including care for children, teens, and adults.
    • Family Crisis: United Way seeks to fund programs addressing solutions to and prevention of family violence through investing in prevention, diversion, and both immediate crisis intervention and long-term solutions.
  • Financial Security
    • United Way seeks to fund programs, services, and initiatives for Kent County youth (13–18) and adults that further career readiness, employment, postsecondary education, and financial empowerment opportunities.
    • The Financial Security application’s purpose is to fund projects focused on breaking down barriers in employment, career advancement, and economic stability for Kent County residents.
  • Youth Education
    • United Way seeks to fund programs, services, and initiatives focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programming for middle school students. United Way invests in solutions that enhance a student’s social-emotional learning only if it relates to success in STEAM programming.
    • The State of Michigan’s 101st Legislature defines STEM as “science, technology, engineering, and mathematics delivered in an integrated fashion using cross-disciplinary learning experiences that can include language arts, performing and fine arts, and career and technical education.” United Way also supports the integration of the arts, or STEAM.
